Join me for a virtual writing workshop which uses visual prompts to provide a little window onto other vistas & space to breathe. This session brings together art history and creative prompts, for a gentle hour of writing, looking and reflection.
Writing Invitation
Are you an art lover who would like to try your hand at expressing the impact art has on you through the written word? Or perhaps you are a writer or aspiring writer looking for ways to find inspiration. How can we use art to inspire words?
Join me for an online creative writing workshop that brings together the visual and the written.
This writing session is aimed at anyone who feels they might benefit from a different view and some space to create and breathe. Art can inspire words and reflections and in this session we will encounter images that will pique our curiosity and our creativity.
You can expect to leave this workshop with:
Writing tools and practices to carry you forward.
The space to combine the visual and written to interrogate your imagination and spark creativity.
Room for reflection, space to think and breathe.
An open window.
Of course, you may be able to use this time for peaceful reflection. However, if you need to balance this session with care-giving you are welcome to bring along babies, children etc.
What the visual offers writers
The magic of art is its ability to offer us as visceral, immediate experience. We don’t need years of art historical training or thick books on theory to appreciate the sensations that arise when we look at a work we find evocative.
There is always a germ of something in looking. It might be a narrative question or an idea about a character depicted in paint. It might be a jolt of recognition or the juxtaposition of different colours of textures. Sometimes it conveys a mood.
